Meet our Early Stage Researchers: Filipe Gama from Tampere University of Technology

Tell something about yopic_filipegamaurself?

My name is Filipe Gama, from Leiria, Portugal. I received both, Bachelor and Master degrees in Electrical Engineering – Electronics and Telecommunications from Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. In the past five years, I worked in a research community which is mainly supported by a national organization of research and development in the field of telecommunications called Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT). Most of my research was aimed to 3D video systems and video compression. Furthermore, in my last year of studies, I performed part of my master’s thesis at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany.

As a hobby, I like to travel, to practice sports, to play guitar and piano, and hang out with friends.

Why did you apply to ETN-FPI project?

Continue my studies was always a priority because I do like the academic and research environment. Basically, two main factors brought me down here. First of all, I guess I was at the right place, at the right time because someone proposed me this project. Secondly, ETN-FPI project is an ambitious and promising project, full of potential. This is a great and a unique opportunity to work in a field that I like, in a multidisciplinary universe and international environment, and to have a close contact with the industry.

What kind of expectations do you have for your research project and network training?

I expect multiple challenges during the course of this project because of its potential and prospects. However, I hope to meet the research goals, making sure that all tasks given to me are completed on time and to the highest standards. On the other hand, I hope to grow personally and professionally due to the connection with other researchers, professors, members and professionals.
